Hi and introduction
Hi chaps.
Long time lurker, and now a member of the 120 club. I pick up my 2006 Tx spec 120 series with 4.0L petrol power plant, next weekend.
I live in the Eastern Island, LOTR country, the suburbs of the shaky city - Christchurch, New Zealand.
Hunting and fishing is my hobby. I work in a large engineering firm making ship propulsion units.
here is my truck, stock as yet unmodified.
First purchase is a private rego plate.
Second purchase will be a set of MCC rear drawers (any one got experience with those). Previously I ran a 97 surf diesel 1KZTE and made my own drawers as a copy of the Drifta's.
Then it will prob be a new set of spotlights. I'm thinking Hella Rallye FF4000.
Most of my driving is daily commute, plus towing my ATV to the stations I hunt on. So a small amount of gravel roads but not real 4x4 stuff.
And going camping or fishing, which in NZ is tar seal or gravel roads.
Thanks for a great forum

Thank you Ian
I look forward to getting some pics up and reading about everyone's mods etc that are done to their rigs.
And getting out there and enjoying the drive. That and learning how to 4x4 with the auto. All my other 4 by's were manual.
Cheers

Hi There, I bought a 2010 GXL D4D Auto just before Christmas. Having a brother who has a 120 GXL so it was a pretty easy choice. I'm in Melbourne and am looking forward to getting out and about in the Prado after a long time in less capable cars. Already been up to the high country around Mt Stirling and a few other spots too.
Accessories: TJM bar and protection, Stedi LED bar, Rhino tray. Simples.
I just wanted to say that having lurked for a while, I'm impressed with the information sharing on the forum - it's great - thanks to all who contribute!
Cheers,
Peter

Evening all
Wanted to break out of the lurking mould and introduce myself.
Name : Paul
State : Wa
Job : Technical instructor in the mining industry.
Model: 150 GXL 2.8L Auto
Year: 2015
Colour: Glacier White
Accessories: BFG at's, ARB deluxe bar, sidesteps, ARB snorkel, Hayman Reece tow bar, soon to be fitted Fyrlyt Nemisis 9000.
Wishlist: 80 channel uhf, roof rack, under bonnet air compressor and cylinder, lift kit, more money to spend on it and the other project I have in the shed!
Previous 4x4's I have owned
sr5 hilux, fj45 with 350 chev and 80 series turbo DX Landcruiser.
I sold my 80 December last year after a mate rang me up and asked if it was for sale, we have a young family and 9 months ago it increased in size, the cook didn't like to drive my manual 80 series truck so it was time to move on, we looked around and just couldn't go past the Prado GXL, especially after a mate just finished doing the Gib in his and had a Fat time doing it with no problems.
About me
I grew up in the Pilbara and started to learn to drive when I was 10 in my old mans 1980 MQ Datsun Pootrol, it was a great car, after working in the mining industry for the last 20 something years and seeing the crap these Toyota's take I only buy Toyota as you can see by the 4x4 I have owned.
My 80 series had a 70mm lift kit, over sized BFG's, black widow draws, bladder in the rear quater, Bullbar, Rallye 2000, sidesteps, rear wheel carrier snorkel Etc etc etc.
Looking forward to reading more of the posts on here, upgrading the prado and getting out there again
Cheers
Paul

hello skips,
There arn't too many GX Prados on teh forum, so welcome, because if you don't need the back row seats, or dual zone climate control AC and a few other bits, the GX is a great option I recon...please keep posting info of any modifications you get/make.
We had a 2010 GXL Prado, and loved it...a couple of suggestions..if you put a dual battery system in it, I personally would avoid putting it under the bonnet if you plan doing off road trips, as we cracked the inner guard. We did a 40mm dobinson suspension lift, and it made a great difference...your original shocks will be getting soft now, and if you go off road and tow or load the car up, a 40mm suspension lift will make a huge difference, better handling, better clearance...but you could benefit from some aftermarket side steps (sliders)..the GX models didn't come with side steps, and if you lift the car, especially for passengers, side steps makes it easier to get in and out...and also protects the sills. Anyway...you should have a great car.

A clean slate! Pretty good price too. Have fun Skips.Originally posted by skips80 View PostHi All,
First post on here so figure I'd start with an intro. Long time Hilux owner and a member of NewHilux.net which I found a massive help with mods and opinions on products. The wife has our first child on the way so we're joining the Prado club to give her a nicer everyday car and something comfortale and capable when we do get away for some road trips.
Heading up to Perth this morning to pick up our purchase from Westside Auto in Welshpool (also bought the hilux from them). They had a lot of ex miners and rental fleet vehicles but we found one that was registered to the Australian Customs with full logbook history serviced at melville Toyota and from the looks of things its only ever seen bitumen, assuming that its never towed given that it has no towbar and bog standard in every other respect which means I can put what I want on it.
Model: GX 150 Series
Year:2011
Colour: White
Paid: $37000
km:72000
Only accessory is a cargo barrier. Otherwise she's bog stock standard.
Barwork is the first priority and to fit the dual battery for the engel.
Looking forward to reading up on everyones buildups and opinions on products.
