  • Finished removing the intake chamber, didn't realise it fed the fuel reg so had to grab a nipple from the spares box and some suitable hose.

Bunnings caps filled the holes, cut one down to fit nicer.

Definitely more induction noise in the carport lol

See how it goes on the road.

    Enjoying the tune more too.

Will upload some pics when I'm on the PC as the forum has stupid size limits and I CBF resizing etc on mobile.

    • Took car for a spin today after finishing service, with the window down and some rev's on board, dare I say it actually sounds good lol

Window up it's still nice and quiet, just throatier.

Front diff was a nightmare, Kaon tool simply rounded the centre out of the drain plug. Used my vac tool I use for brakes to drain through the filler hole and refill. Will worry about it in another 40ks when it's due again and I can be bothered either cold chisel or weld something on or maybe just drop at toyota and let them enjoy lol

Brakes were odd too, I couldn't use my power bleeder, just wasn't pulling anything through, I think this is due to the Toyota design though. Used the ABS pump to push fluid through instead, but that ended up flattening the battery lol (ignition on, press pedal down and pump will fire and push fluid).

      Done now.

      • Filled the tank with 98 today, still had easy 20L in there so will need to clock up some k's first before I can give it a some rev's. updates after I've done the k's, which might be ages at this rate lol

Have been doing a lot of trailer work on my property lately and I can definitely say I'm enjoying the extra torque.

        • First decent k's since te tune, did 400ks today, mostly highway driving. The cruise control behaviour is improved, it seems to not overshoot as badly as it was when dropping a gear/unlocking and going up an incline. It holds 5th locked more often also.

Clearly better power for getting up to speed on the ramps and overtaking on single lane country roads.

          Good stuff.

          • similar to my experiences. Biggest difference is the auto behaviour, much improved.
Power doesn’t really seem that noticeable, definitely not ‘wow’ but then it pulls much better, and I find it puts on speed much easier than it used to, so has to be more grunt.
think it’s probably a chunk of extra torque moreso than much extra power, which you feel..

            • Agreed.

For me some of the effect is also from better intake noises, the car "sounds" faster lol

              Wish I'd done those sooner.

Can't comment on economy, been too busy giving it a few revs for the noise lol

              • I said the same after tuning mine. First and now every drive puts a smile on my face. Keep the mods coming mate.

                • The next mod is windscreen after I dropped a top hat on it while building a shed lol Colourful language was used.

I was using the compressor to blow out the holes for the dynabolts and didn't move the car when I was done...

It's hard to find good tradies these days it seems lol

                  • Got a lovely new windscreen in today.

The wreckr also came through with a mint scuttle panel after the one they sent had some minor cracks in it so I will have to swap those around when the better one arrives.

Been looking at a stereo upfgrade next, liking Kenwood DMX8020WS and DMX9020WS, just hunting around for package prices. Wouldn't mind adding a small front camera to the mix.

                    • Still working on stereo kit, the places I'm dealing with are slow AF to respond.

Been looking at lockup controllers also as a mate bought one and got me wanting one too lol I think I might wait though as the wholesale auto kit is about to be updated in a few months to be fully automatic, more like the stocklock but cheaper. The idea of having to manually engage/disengage annoys me.

Got a new toy though, bought the 251 new last year and I've done over 30 cubes with it easily, but after using my neighbours 362 it was obvious I could use/benefit from/enjoy more power. 362 is a pro saw so 50% more power than the 251 for aroundf a kg extra weight. I ripped through some 18" hardwood at his place with his like it was nothing and it made me smile like a little girl Got it new for $1300 which is a steal ($RRP is like $1700 or so I think).

Tossing up if I use the 20" bar it came with or go down to 18 as I don't really need the length, just the power, the 251 will either get sold or go down to like a 14" or something to be used for other duties. Currently on an 18" setup, but .325 chain so nothing can be swapped between them as the 362 is a full tilt 3/8.

Now that we're back to work I can do some proper testing with the tune on my usual route. So far I don't feel like I'm going to save anything fuel wise, but it seems I'm averaging a higher speed for the same economy as I was before - I'm currently using 98 while it's cheap. I could probably drive it lighter again but I thinbk I'm just preferring to drive a bit quicker (I was really babying it before to get my mid 12s per hundred).

                      • Great thread mate, I just stumbled across it as I've just started looking to buy my first Prado and like you currently have both a Ford Falcon Wagon (2004) and Ford Territory (2005) . The Falcon has been solid engine wise as a daily drive but is starting to look a little tired and the Territory has been nothing but a money pit since we've got to so time to give both the flick. How have you found the petrol? I'm looking to spend around 35k and leaning towards a petrol V6 as I don't want to spend that amount of cash and then deal with cracked pistons, DPF issues or a replace a turbo. Only concern with the petty is the fuel economy, day to day i'll be doing minimal k's but will be towing a caravan from time to time but I think i'd rather the piece of mind and less worries of the Petrol.

Keep the posts coming, i'll be following cheers

I think I've covered it all in here fairly well.

It's slower than my SZ territory and it uses more fuel, but my Terry was RWD, single pegger so the Prado can do things it couldn't.

I still rate the Terry as one of the best bang for buck family cars out there, great tow vehicle too with plenty of comfort. Cheap to buy, fix, service etc.

I am saving on extra rego and insurance though and I don't ever have to think about moving kids car seats or if the car can go over there, I once had the Terry "stuck" on wet grass at an event, just on a nature strip that was really soft and steep, funny shit.

I am averaging around the 13L mark and I choose to run 95/98 for the extra power with the tune, best I've seen with my ultra fuel driving is mid to low 12s, but you really need to not be going over 100 to do that. Keep in mind this is lifted, AT's, bar, winch, batteries etc. I think I could get a fully bog stocker into the high 10's low 11s.

I've just accepted that this car costs more to run and service but it can do more things for me so I'm trying to make the most of it and not fret about fuel - This will hold it's value so much better also. It drops kids to school, goes on day trips with a fridge in the back, camps mostly wherever we want, will go a bit off road, tows my wood from out of the bush, goes on long drives with relative comfort etc. It's very versatile, but make no mistake it's on the whole more expensive to own than an SZ MKII Territory and it's slower and handles worse - even with fancy BP51s and a Tune.

I am yet to tow my race car with this but am fully expecting 20+L, possibly as high as 25. The territory would sit on 17-18L at 110, it was such a good tow car.

Just renewed insurance $818 with budget direct, best they would give me s 27k value but they do cover off road driving, protect rating 1 for life etc etc. They have looked after me well in the past.

Just ordered a head unit also, Kenwood DMX820WS, WS for 200mm wide screen fitment to hopefully have a neat finish without the ugly side fascia bits. the jury is out on what patch leads I needed as this is supposed to bolt straight in and be able to retain steering wheel controls etc (lead needed to retain rear camera also and there's confusion on if you must still have the second screen plugged in which I don't plan to do as I want that space for storage). They said they would take the leads back if they were not needed, only $30 anyway.

I am also adding a basic parkmate front camera for better visibility given some of the things I do around here/in the bush.

                          • This weekends mods were just a few small tidy up/changes.

Firstly was to swap out the ARB compressor switch, it's ugly and too bright at night time - yes I'm aware I can just pull the illumination from it, but the switch is still ugly as. The wiring is interesting, ignore SW1 and SW2 as they are for lockers. I expected a basic trigger wire to a relay, but note how it actually triggers the pressure sensor directly, then the earth for the pressure sensor is the trigger wire for the relay for compressor power - it makes sense, but took me by surprise.

I ordered a switch from Air Onboard but was unfortunate enough to receive a dud, it worked once then I could hear something rattling, then it stopped working. Seems like the switch mechanism failed, then bridged some contacts and shorted the switch. He asked me for a bunch of photos andimplied I'd damaged it myseld until I showed him the but of copper that fell out, he replaced it immediatelty after that, but I assume he gets a lot of guys runnning power straight to it, rather than using it to trigger a relay.

With that sorted I then found the plastic surround had been modified to fit the ARB switch such that you could not add a factory switch or blank back in that slot. Here's the part number for that surround - $25 from Toyota - and some side by sides. The light green is a fairly close match.

Supercheap had a sale so I was able to buy their platinum spec sheep skin covers for 30% off, or around $260 vs $390 - Got a set for the Wife too. Fairly simple to fit and seem quite comfy but this is my first ever set, they do add some height to the seating position and I was already at the lowest setting so that takes some getting used to but I imagine it will comrpess down a bit.

Slate gray is a fairly good match for the standard interior colours. Noticed my license plate LED's failing too, one flickering, the other dead. The eBay lead set I got is rubbish. Ordered Stedi LEDs for the license plate and will source some better interior ones in warm white vs the cool white I ended up with. Just waiting for my head unit now!

This forum is so weird about landscape vs portrait photos and what size it will allow you to post - annoying.

                              • How did you go with the stereo?
I recently mounted a Kenwood DMX820WS in my Hilux and I used the Aerpro adapters for the vehicle - some of it was plug and play - like the steering wheel controls (adapter is provided in the box from Kenwood) and speaker connections.

The things you will need to get the soldering iron out for are

Antenna cable adapter blue wire to the blue wire on the Kenwood
Find the reverse wire on the car side of the plug (for me it was Pin2 from memory) to wire into your reverse camera power adapter (12V to 6V converter cable)
Wire the handbrake wire to Ground to allow use of unit by the passenger while moving.

Dont forget to set reverse camera interruption to On in the settings so that when you stick it reverse it will show the rear camera view automatically. This was off by default on my unit.
