I can happily say that my new dash has now been installed (04/04/2016) by Bridge Toyota Darwin, very happy camper. Hats off to Macaulay from the service team.

mine is all over the airbag and they still say that it wont affect deployment. I've been knocked back twice, onto my third dealer now

I'm going to ask my mate who works with the RMS as an inspector. He did say previously that if it was cracked on your steering wheel it would be a knock back for rego

I have asked that question in my many (so far unsuccessful) communications with head office. Below is their reply in regard to the safety argument.
"In regards to your enquiry relating to the operation of airbags. A cracked dash such as that in your vehicle will have no impact on the airbag operation ie. airbag deployment will operate as designed in the event it is required."
I'm sure the lawyers will have fun with that statement in the event of an airbag puncturing and not deploying properly or a piece of shrapnel damaging one of the occupants in the event of an accident. I presume they believe the risk of a large damages claim is cheaper than replacing their faulty products.

Hi Steve, is your dash cracked through the front off the passengers airbag? mine also 2003 the one crack runs through the R in SRS.
As we were driving home last night my wife asked about her safety with these cracks in the event off an accident and the airbag going off with the damaged dash - how would it be affected?

I took the same approach with Toyota as Steve and Adrian did and got told the same.

They told me that 10 years was the cut off, but then when questioned why some over 10 years had been approved, they couldn't answe me.

Would it be worth one of us approaching one of the dealers who has had success in getting a 10+ year dash approved to see what tact to take?

would it be worth revisiting amts's list or creating a new one so all the guys that got screwed can collectively approach Toyota - power in numbers? Mine went in for photos before easter, haven't heard anything as yet. Need to find a chance to call them.

Yea mate I'd say so. I won't be giving up that easy. In my opinion they have started by doing some then they should be doing them all.

Steve, sounds like your getting the same response I got from toyota. Wouldn't comment on my "allegations" that cars older than 10 years had been approved and wouldn't budge on approving mine.

Yes definitely. Not sure may be wrong but I think amts was doing the tally while vehicles were only still young ?? We need one with vehicles over the 10 year mark and who has been approved with what dealer. They could not give me a truthful answer today. And I asked him again just before I hung up with the shits, I said how come your approving some and not others over the 10 year mark that's all I want to know ?? Kept saying to me he couldn't pass on other peoples details as to why they were approved and the fact mine was out of its 3 year warranty period WTF. Probably been getting hammered by us. Well I'm off to another dealership again tomorrow and go through the same process.
