There is only an extra 1776BTU/Hr for the 679 over the 678 or about 12% improvement in heat dissipation between the 678 and 679.

    Model 678 13,934BTU/Hr
    Model 679 15,710BTU/Hr

Given the tightness of space maybe not too great an advantage. I thought about the 679 but decided on the 678 due to space limitations.

Not sure where you got your dimensions from as the Davies Craig page link below shows the cores to be the same thickness 20mm the same length 281mm and only different in width 184mm versus 265mm.
Overall dimensions are the same for thickness 20mm and length 281mm differing only in width 213mm to 300mm

From The davies craig website (link below see page 59) the figures are

      jss,

Just went searching the Davies Craig website and found the dimensions quoted by you. Interesting, the maker seems to have two specifications for the same item depending on where you read them.

This link has details for 679 that differ to the link in my previous post.

      Oh well

Thanks for that Prone, yep i guess i'll go for the 678 to eliminate any hassles re fitting.
I'll be ordering one tomorrow as the 150's first big towing trip is coming up in a week or so. It dragged the caravan on a short trip no worries but this time it's towing the boat up to 1770 for a few days of fishing, and the boat is just borderline legal behind the Prado so it will be working it's ass off with the weight i think.

        Cheers

The cooler has its own thermal switch to activate the fan when the fluid temperature reaches 175 degrees F/79.44° Celsius. So fare I have never had the fan running. Cooler trans temp longer the life...sorry no photos, got the cooler through local parts supplier. Approx $500.00 fitted it myself...

Could some one please answer what I think might be a dumb question. I'm getting confused by a couple of things I'm a electrician but fairly mechanically minded and could someone that has done the install on a d4d 2013 tell me what I need to do, I'm looking at getting the b&m 70297. Why can't the line com e straight from the radiator and straight to the transmission or is this what I'm meant to do, there is one post in here that says the oil has to go to the radiator? There is only 2 hose fittings plus the temp sensor where does the oil go? Or does the water pipes just get changed

Thanks heaps sorry about the spaz question just want to get it right

I just noticed a few installations where people have directed the lines to the bottom of the cooler...Bad bad...The top half of the cooler will have air in it that can't get out !! Put your hands on the top half and feel the difference in temp compared to the bottom..In a few cases only half the cooler is actually doing any work..

Looking at fitting the 678 Davies Craig cooler so the inlet and outlet lines run horizontally.
Can someone confirm if it's best to run the inlet line from the radiator to top line of the cooler and exit out of the bottom line.
Or is it better to run to the bottom line of the cooler from the radiator so the ATF rises and exits out of the top line of the cooler, would running this way allow the fluid to stay in the cooler a bit longer to remove more heat?

I used a B&M 70264. The paperwork that came with the unit made mention of not installing the cooler sideways. Hose fittings at the top or bottom only.

Am looking at getting a cooler installed, but there is no way I would thinking about doing this myself.
Does anyone know of a reputable transmission shop around the Brisbane area?
Live in the Redlands area but happy to take it anywhere around BrisVegas, thanks.

The Davis Craig instructions say the cooler can be mounted in either direction.

I think connecting the incoming line from the radiator to the bottom of the cooler would give the best results as the fluid would be in cooler longer?? But I could be wrong!

I have been looking at aftermarket transmission coolers.
Looking through this thread I see people have used different aftermarket coolers with 3/8 , 5/16 and AN-6 fittings.
Whats the correct size fitting for the 150?

                            Wagon Man,
I fitted my cooler on the weekend and can confirm 3/8 hose fits onto the AT fittings at the top of the radiator and to the steel line under the car that returns to the transmission.
3/8 is also the size of the fittings on the Davis Craig & PWR coolers

                              Hi Guys,
On the prado 150 radiator, who can confirm the the outlet port is the higher one (colder atf oil).
Asking because this seems a little off as most radiators inlent (hotter) water will come from the top and exist from the below (outlet - colder)

Want to fit the extra cooler after the radiator and wondering where to connect it.

                              Thanks!

                                ValeroK86,

Common practice is to run the medium to be cooled upstream of the cooling medium. That is the auto fluid flows opposite direction to the engine coolant.
If they flowed in the same direction there is minimal heat exchange, as such the higher port will be the outlet.
