There is only an extra 1776BTU/Hr for the 679 over the 678 or about 12% improvement in heat dissipation between the 678 and 679.

Not sure where you got your dimensions from as the Davies Craig page link below shows the cores to be the same thickness 20mm the same length 281mm and only different in width 184mm versus 265mm.
Overall dimensions are the same for thickness 20mm and length 281mm differing only in width 213mm to 300mm
